The Communication Model

The structural communication model has been widely used to illustrate the way communication works between individuals. If you will notice on the right the “joint decoder” is the system that both individuals have agreed on to be able to understand one another, for example the same language. Two people can talk to each other and not communicate if they are talking two different languages. Two people can even have the same language and not use the same definition for words, which will cause miscommunication. The process of coming to an agreement is essential for there to be communication. The Apostle Paul in 1Corinthians 9:19-23, expressed his position to be the first to move toward others. He would learn their language, he would adopt their customs, and in every way not sinful become like one of them. Remember, the humility of our Saviour who also came in the likeness of men (Philippians 2:7). Let this same mindset be in you.The structural communication model has been widely used to illustrate the way communication works between individuals.
