Discipleship: Natural Process

The need for strategy in the accomplishment of a goal so global as missions would seem obvious. But, I want to compare a similar goal that was given to a man about 6,000 years ago. This man, Adam, was commanded to populate and dominate the globe. You may think that “he had nearly a millennium to work on it (he lived 939 years). It is was just him and his wife to begin with. What was his strategy, his plan? We are not told about a mental strategy. He did what God had given him the natural capacity to do. He multiplied. He did not have to think too hard about it. You see, as new creatures in Christ we have a natural ability to multiply. This multiplication process has the potential to cover the earth. Paul, the great New Testament missionary, had plans of geographic expansion lined out in Romans 15. But the core element of the process was described in 1Corinthians 4:15 “For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.” New creatures should beget new creatures. Of course it is a work of the Holy Spirit through us. The emphasis here is that it happens naturally.
